Since early history, the Vagina Dentata (toothed vagina) has been one of the most profound castration myths in patriarchal societies. As in most myths originated in fear of the female body and the female presence and sexuality, in this myth, there is a strong contradiction between male welfare and female joy or pleasure. Hence, during thousands of years, and to this day, entire societies (including ours) have created whole political and social systems to oppress women in many different forms - from female circumcision in Somalia, to ridiculous salaries in professions like teaching and social work, considered as "female".
As a humorous reaction to this extreme fear of women and, in particular, of the vagina, in 2012, I took some pictures in the studio of my cunt wearing 6 different sets of plastic teeth for Halloween. A year afterwords, I decided to print and paste those images in the streets of my hometown, Tel Aviv - as a protest, but most of all, as a joke, that is for me the strongest of all protests.
